Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 27926
Hebrew Spell Checker incompatibility
Last modified: 2004-04-19 11:30:15 UTC
I wrote a document with Hebrew and English using 1.1.1 with the English interface. As 1.1.1 doesn't have a Hebrew spelling checker, I downloaded the Hebrew-interface version of OO (which is Version 1.1 and has a Hebrew spelling checker) and tried to run the spell checker in the Hebrew version. The spelling checker took care of the English without a problem, but "choked" on the Hebrew, which it identified as "Arabic," and was "not installed." If I spell-check a Hebrew document written using the 1.1 Hebrew interface version, the spelling checker works fine.

* What did you do exactly to get the spell checker from the Hebrew version working in the English one? * in your prefrences, do you have the option "check for all languages" marked? * In your prefrences, what is your locale setting? and the deault setting for CTL documents?
Many thanks for your leads. It's much appreciated. I now have "check all languages" checked. When I ran the spell-check, I was given the message that "Hebrew is not supported or is not active." I was told to go to Tools|Options| Language settings| Writing Aids, but Hebrew is not listed there. Nor is it an available download at the main OO site. (Funnily enough, it obviously does exist, as it is in the Hebrew localization version). Yes, I do have CTL activated. The version I am using is 1.1.1. I accidentally marked it incorrectly as an earlier version. I am not sure what "Locale setting" is, but my address is listed as "Israel."
After communicating with the reporter via email, it seems that he wants to have a Hebrew spell checker in the English OOo. Therefor, this is a dup of issue #27926
