1) Create a table with format of Table Elegant using Microsoft Word XP.
Note that the characters in first row are all in Uppercase.
2) Invoke OO643C
3) -> File-> Open, open the table created just now
Now note that table can be opened, but the characters in first row are not all
in Uppercase.

Thank you for using and supporting OOo.

Both Word2k and OOo 643c open up your attachment with the first row
in the table as lowercase.
Comment 4 michael.ruess 2002-12-04 10:18:02 UTC
MRU->CMC: That's odd. Loading in WordXP the text in the first row has
the Character Attribute "All Caps"; when loading in Word2000 it does
not...
Do you now about a difference of WordXP and 2000 in this case?
Comment 5 caolanm 2002-12-04 10:42:06 UTC
I'll look at it, between 2000 and xp they duplicated a lot of the
attrs, perhaps to differenciate between asian/ctl/western versions of
the same. The ui hasn't changed so all of the "all caps" versions (if
this is the case) should change together and perhaps the normal one is
not being set in this case, while the new ones are being set.
Something like that happened for some of the indentation properties
and so on, breaking 2000 for some docs created in XP :-).
Comment 6 caolanm 2002-12-04 13:08:35 UTC
Hmm, its the table itself that applies this caps feature. It not a
font attribute, but some feature of the table look itself. Very tricky
to know how to handle this on import. If will happen on any table of
the "elegent look", and there are possibly other similiar effects with
other table looks :-(
Comment 7 caolanm 2002-12-09 15:37:47 UTC
Renaming this to help me see what its about.
Comment 8 caolanm 2003-02-12 09:50:47 UTC
To do this properly requires a table look style for writer as well,
which has similiar capabilites to word's to override the text
formatting of the contents of the header row.
Comment 9 bettina.haberer 2003-03-25 13:59:19 UTC
Writer needs a tablelook style to work well in this case, I changed
the issue type therefore to enhancement.

cmc->ama: This is an interesting (if little used) feature in word
where a "table style" is an additional style that overrides
character/paragraph properties of text in particular rows/stripes.
Comment 12 bettina.haberer 2003-10-24 17:59:49 UTC
Hello Andreas, is there any chance to get such table styles into the 'Q'?
Comment 13 andreas.martens 2003-11-21 11:09:43 UTC
No, it's not planned. I'm just creating a list with "nice to have"
features and I put it on this list. If we've enough time we will
implement it for Q, but at the moment I don't think so.
Comment 14 bettina.haberer 2003-11-27 16:23:48 UTC
Writer needs a tablelook style for optimized Word-import .Considered
for 'Office Later'.

I'm not certain Issue 111201 is a duplicate of this. In issue 111201 the text in
a caption above a table is being converted into upper case letters in when part
of a List Of Tables. MS's LOT preserves the case of the text correctly.
Comment 17 cactuscomputing 2010-04-28 15:23:41 UTC
Ok I just read you second comment about the "All caps" style, I guess the
summary of this bug is a bit misleading. Note though I'd still consider this a
bug rather than an enhancement as it's changing the appearance and page count of
documents. Any idea when this will be fixed?

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
